Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is basically an examination on the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering / Technology/Architecture. The GATE examination is an online Computer Based Test (CBT). The GATE score reflects the relative performance level of the candidate in a particular subject. GATE is conducted every year jointly by IISc, Bangalore and Seven IITs (Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE is a mandatory qualification for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to:
Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and
Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other Government agencies.
A candidate admitted to Master’s or Direct Doctoral Programs in Engineering / Technology/ Architecture and Doctoral Programs in Institutes supported by MHRD become eligible for getting financial assistance only if he has a valid gate score. Post Graduate Scholarship is entitled only to full-time GATE qualified students admitted to AICTE approved programs viz. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of Architecture and Master of Pharmacy courses in AICTE approved Institutions and AICTE approved University Departments.
Note: GATE the score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.
